Fun on the Web Sept 22 2012 Removing a Toolbar

Sometimes when you install some software you get an unwanted toolbar. Recently Kim Komando had a great segment here http://www.komando.com/tips/index.aspx?id=13304 on how to remove unwanted toolbars but unfortunately she has a tendency to make her links expire so I am reposting all that great info here.

I do recommend subscribing to her because she has great tips and daily downloads. She can help you become much more tech savvy.

In Firefox, click the small icon in the search toolbar at the top right of the page. You'll see a drop-down menu of available search engines.

Click the "manage search engines" option and find Babylon search. Click it and then click "Remove." The search engine will default back to Google.

To remove the toolbar, click the Firefox button in the top left corner of the browser and then select "Add-ons." You should find the Babylon toolbar in either the "Extensions" or "Plugins" menu. Click the Remove button next to it.

Sometimes the Remove button will be grayed out. In this case, you'll have to go to Firefox>>Help>>Restart with Add-ons disabled. Then go back to the Add-ons menu and remove the Babylon toolbar. Then restart Firefox again.

If it changed your default homepage, go to Firefox button>>Options and look at the Startup section of the General tab.

For Google Chrome, go to the Wrench icon and then click Settings. Check for the Babylon Toolbar under the Extensions menu and delete it.

Babylon may change your home page or search, as well. To change your home page back, look for "On Startup" in the settings menu. Click "Set pages" and copy and paste in any URL - www.komando.com is a good one!

To delete Babylon search, click "Manage search engines" and then hover your mouse over Babylon Search. Click the gray X that appears.

For Internet Explorer 9, go to the Gear icon>>Internet Options (Tools>>Internet Options in IE8). On the Programs tab, click Manage add-ons. Go through each section and remove any references to the Babylon toolbar or search engine.

If you need to change the home page, go back to Internet Options and look in the General tab.
