Do you have a young adult who is off to school? Well aside from the million and one things they need to start life in a dorm or sharing an apartment with their classmates you may want to include something that is more fun than extension cords. So here are a few ideas:

Girls Pampering Kit: Bubble bath, some sort of facial mask, nail polish, those toe separators that you can buy for a dollar at the drugstore, maybe a candle, lip gloss, scented body lotion.

But speaking of extension cords. Get a large container like a pop up hamper or translucent storage box with a tight lid and start filling with any or all of the following:
extension cords
cable zip ties
power strip
USB hub
WD40
duct tape
hammer
screwdriver
sewing kit or make your own: spools of black and white thread, fold an index card, wrap with colored thread from your sewing box, then stick a few needles through the card
Chapstick
tissues
toothpaste (heaven knows they have never bought this themselves)
hand lotion
add a spare set of sheets
towels
hot pads
kitchen gadgets (even a dorm room will see some type of cooking)
coca mix
a selection of tea or flavored coffees
2 microwave safe cups or more if its a larger room or apartment
notepads (see if you can find the magnetic variety that will go on a fridge or file cabinet)
pens
tape
scissors
paperclips
a deck of cards
maybe Jenga
throw in some favorite granola bars, or even candy bars would be welcome

Add a first aid kit

• Tweezers
• Safety Pins
• Antibiotic Ointment (Neosporin)
• Antiseptic Towelettes
• Moleskin for blisters
• Bandaids or Nexcare bandages
• ACE bandage
• Ibuprofen
• Antihistamine (Benadryl)
• Anti Itch Stick

Indoor Tulips . . . Step 1 - Spring flowers in a temperate climate so to force them you have to refrigerate for about 6 weeks so they think they've overwintered. Step 2 - Fill a glass container about 1/3 of the way with glass marbles or decorative rocks. Clear glass will enable you to watch the roots develop . . . Step 3 - Set the tulip bulb on top of the marbles or stones; pointed end UP. Add a few more marbles or rocks so that the tulip bulb is surrounded but not covered (think support). . . Step 4 - Pour fresh water into the container. The water shouldn't touch the bulb, but it should be very close, so that the roots will grow in

Personally I have used the vinegar with a penny method and the Benydryl Itch stick and think they both work. Vinegar is cheap but the itch stick is portable and smells better.

Fun on the Web Aug 11 2012 Tolkien's Works

Since 1937 The Hobbit has thrilled audiences. I know I read it to my kids when they were sick in bed one year and we all enjoyed it immensely. I credit their love for literature to that and other non traditional books, comics, and reading that was fostered in our home. Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen with them.

Anyway did you know there is a Tolkien Society? This Society brings together like minds with three gatherings throughout the year at a national level but of course they are in the UK.

Fun on the Web Aug 4, 2012 Murder?

Been spending time today poking around this site reading (and looking at old pictures) of a probable murder in Lake Mills. It was the second wife of a wealthy and powerful man whose first wide also died in some questionable circumstances. Also of interest is that the third Mrs. Fargo was already living in the house with them at the time of the murder, excuse me alleged illness but it all is very fishy. Make sure to try to click on all the links on pages because there is no main page where they all stem from on this site.
