Gung Hay Fat Choy

That means Happy Chinese New Year or Gong Xi Fa Ca! That’s the traditional Chinese New Year greeting that means “wishing you prosperity” in Mandarin.

This is the most important of Chinese holidays, celebrated by billions of ethnic Chinese around the world. It’s a 15 day celebration end with the Lantern Festival. Each year is represented by one of twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. For 2012, it’s the Year of the Dragon.

Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally last from the first day (during a new moon) to the 15th day (a full moon). Each day holds a special significance that varies according to local traditions.

The Year 2012 is the 4709th Chinese year. For a great explanation of this and the Stem-Branch Calendar look here: http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/2012.htm
