"Not so task-oriented. Not a work horse. If you're looking for a Clydesdale I'm probably not your man. Like I don't live to work, it's more the other way around. I work to live. Incidentally, what's your policy on Columbus Day?" Here are the days we should get off work but don't:
1. Columbus Day (October 12) - the guy discovered the new world!
2. Monday After Super Bowl - every person in the English speaking world is watching it until 1 am with a beer (or case of beer) in hand
3. Victory Over Japan Day (August 15) - we should honor every man who's ever fought for our freedoms
4. Sumer Solstice (June 21) - its the longest day of the year (counting sunlight)... who wants to be stuck in the office all day
5. Season Finale of American Idol - this should be a national party day - people should wake up and start drinking by noon
6. Valentine's Day - if we are going to have this Hallmark holiday designed for women, give the men something, LIKE A DAY OFF
7. iPhone Day (June 29, 2007) - the day apple releases the infamous iPhone. AT&T stores have already hired thousands of temporary workers to account for the floods of people
8. Black Friday - (the day after Thanksgiving) everyone uses their float day to take the day off work, so why not just make it official and give everyone the PTO

Capturing my ongoing fascination with the depth and breadth of internet sites out there. Ranging from the absurd to the relevant I highlight sites I locate, some of my posts are long and some short based on available time and what I have seen that is new to me. Although originally a joke newsletter, I have become far more interested in sharing information with my readers. I hope you enjoy this blog and feel free to comment or suggest other sites for my readers. Thanks!

Fun on the Web Feb 2, 2012 Happy Groundhogs Day
Who saw their shadow? That will be the question most of the day after 7:10 am after we have sunrise. Groundhogs Day is always a day when those of us in the north look forward to finding out if we are having early spring or six more weeks of winter.

Was it Wiarton Willie in Ontario? In 55 years this has become a full on festival.

Are you a big fan of Punxsutawney Phil? He has had about 39 percent accuracy ever since 1886.
http://www.groundhog.org/
But for over 60 years Wisconsin has had their own Groundhog, Jimmy. BTW he is right in his prediction about 80% of the time. Not sure I will be out there having breakfast buffet but it might be fun. (Yes in Wisconsin its always about the food.)

Jimmy the Groundhog lives on this apple farm. What a lucky guy!

Buckeye Chuck is one of two groundhogs in Ohio known for predicting the arrival of spring. A native of Marion, Ohio, Chuck began predicting the arrival of Spring in the 1970s. Although he doesn't have his own website, Wikipedia says he is the Official State Groundhog.

Sir Walter Wally from Raleigh, NC

Staten Island Chuck in NY. (Chuck actually bit Mayor Bloomberg

Fun on the Web Feb 1, 2012 Mardi Gras
Did you know Mardi Gras is really a season? Starting on Twelfth Night (Epiphany) Jan 6 a season of parties begins along with one parade by Phunny Phorty Phellows - Streetcar Route, 7:00 p.m
Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday, is the last day of feasting before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. It was common to use up your fat and sugar before Lent begins so different cultures offer different delicacies. In Milwaukee with its large Polish population we think Paczki (a jelly filled sugared donut), in New Orleans its King Cake. http://mardigrasday.com/mardigras/kcrecip.php

More Mardi Gras Food
http://mardigrasday.com/mardigras/food.php
From Feb 4 to Feb 21 there are parades almost every weekend and the last week almost everyday in New Orleans

If you won't get to New Orleans perhaps a trip to Galveston is in store?

or Saint Louis

Or Washington DC
